Nutritional considerations to counteract gastrointestinal permeability during exertional heat stress

چکیده

Intestinal barrier integrity and function are compromised during exertional heat stress (EHS) potentially leading to consequences that range from minor gastrointestinal (GI) disturbances fatal outcomes in stroke or septic shock. This mini-review provides a concise discussion of nutritional interventions may protect against intestinal permeability EHS suggests physiological mechanisms responsible for this protection. Although diverse have been suggested be protective EHS-induced GI permeability, the ingestion certain amino acids, carbohydrates, fluid per se is effective strategy, whereas evidence various polyphenols pre/probiotics developing. Plausible protection include increased blood flow, epithelial cell proliferation, upregulation intracellular shock proteins, modulation inflammatory signaling, alteration microbiota, expression tight junction (TJ) proteins. Further clinical research needed propose specific candidates recommendations their application prevent disruption elucidate EHS.

[Influence of acclimatization on serum enzyme changes in soldiers during exertional heat stress].

BACKGROUND/AIM Exertional heat stress is common problem in military services. The aim was to exemine changes in serum concentrations of some enzymes in soldiers during exertional heat stress test (EHST) as well as the effects of 10-days passive or active acclimatization in climatic chamber. METHODS Forty male soldiers with high aerobic capacity, performed EHST either in cool (20 degrees C, 16...

A virtual rat for simulating environmental and exertional heat stress.

Severe cases of environmental or exertional heat stress can lead to varying degrees of organ dysfunction. To understand heat-injury progression and develop efficient management and mitigation strategies, it is critical to determine the thermal response in susceptible organs under different heat-stress conditions. To this end, we used our previously published virtual rat, which is capable of com...

Recovery and return to activity following exertional heat stroke: considerations for the sports medicine staff.

OBJECTIVE To describe the current scientific evidence of recovery and return to activity following exertional heat stroke (EHS). DATA SOURCES Information was collected using MEDLINE and SPORTDiscus databases in English using combinations of key words, exertional heat stroke, recovery, rehabilitation, residual symptoms, heat tolerance, return to activity, and heat illness. Preservation of Cognitive Performance with Age during Exertional Heat Stress under Low and High Air Velocity

UNLABELLED Older adults may be at greater risk for occupational injuries given their reduced capacity to dissipate heat, leading to greater thermal strain and potentially cognitive decrements. PURPOSE To examine the effects of age and increased air velocity, during exercise in humid heat, on information processing and attention. METHODS Nine young (24 ± 1 years) and 9 older (59 ± 1 years) m...

Heat stress, gastrointestinal permeability and interleukin-6 signaling — Implications for exercise performance and fatigue

Exercise in heat stress exacerbates performance decrements compared to normothermic environments. It has been documented that the performance decrements are associated with reduced efferent drive from the central nervous system (CNS), however, specific factors that contribute to the decrements are not completely understood. During exertional heat stress, blood flow is preferentially distributed...
